When you fly into Viking Island Lodge on Douglas Lake, you are entering Woodland Caribou Park. This large wilderness park is dedicated to preserving our northern boreal forest and all the creatures and plants within it. Douglas Lake is at the top of the great Canadian Shield, a massive area of granite. From here, the water flows east to Red Lake and on to Hudson's Bay. One lake away and you enter another watershed. Here the water flows down the Gammon River system to the Bloodvein and onto Lake Winnipeg. This area is a group of unique smaller lakes with deep water. The shoreline is the rock of the shield.

The opportunities for nature photography are endless. From Douglas, you have access by boat, canoe or portage to 12 different lakes. We encourage you to build a vacation that suits you. We offer a 2 day photography workshop which involves a one day workshop on lighting techniques and then a one day field trip. We also offer a 3 day outfitted canoe trip starting and ending at the lodge.
